Our Story "Past, Present and Future"
|
I grew up with Poodles. I have had
them all my life. But it wasn't until we
had to put my daughter's miniature
poodle (Cocoa) down due to health
problems, that I realized the
importance of good breeding . Cocoa
was young, too young to have to be put
to sleep. Knowing what I know now, I
believe she must have been bred by a
back yard breeder or in a puppy mill.
Here I am with Beau-Beau, and my
brother with his dog Midgie...weren't
we cute? Ahhhh, the 70's......
We were devastated about Cocoa, but
wanted more than anything to have another
poodle in our lives. After looking around for
months to find a miniature poodle in our area,
we were finally contacted by an awesome
breeder who only bred for her personal hobby
of showing dogs. She had a litter that she
couldn't show, and long story short, we
acquired a black miniature poodle now
known as Pepper.
1977...what more can I say?
Pepper and I are now a certified TOUCH (Therapy
Of Unique Canine Helpers) team with Support
Dogs, Inc in St Louis, Missouri. He loves being a
therapy dog and it is very rewarding to see how he
affects the people we visit. He is a neutered pet
and not a part of our breeding program, but
nonetheless, he is a tremendously wonderful dog!
And like most poo's, he is a natural clown!
Learning about breeding and studying the miniature
poodle was sparked by Pepper's breeder. Until we
met her, I had no idea about breeding for quality,
genetics and pedigrees. I am still researching and
learning something new everyday, as any serious
breeder does. It is a challenge, but I love it!
Haylee is a beautiful girl!
I researched for a long time and was looking for just the right dog to add to our
family. After two years of researching, I found Haylee. She came from a well
known pedigree on the west coast. She is a beautiful dog. She has won a few
"best in class" in the conformation ring. We had plans to finish her as a
champion, but she just was not enjoying the show ring. I spoke with a
professional handler and we decided, altho a beautiful dog that should be able to
finish fairly easily, we weren't going to finish her while she was hating it so much.
Maybe in time, but for now therapy work seems to be more her calling. So, since
she loves people (as long as she isn't in the "spotlight"), we plan to take her
through classes to be our next certified TOUCH dog. She will love doing therapy
work! She is a great dog, genetically tested and healthy. We plan to breed her to
a wonderful, equally beautiful, champion stud soon.
We look forward to growing our family and continuing to visit patients doing
therapy work. For more information on Support Dogs, Inc., click here.
